Horrors faced by victims, and why they don't leave

There are unimaginable horrors faced by victims.  They work inhumane long hours in horrible conditions.  They are raped numerous times a day, and assaulted on many occassions.  Many commit suicide.  Most get sexually transmitted diseases.  They are forced to live with others in horrific conditions.

Why don't they run away?  Some do, and if caught they are usually killed.  Others are ashamed to go back to family, or afraid for their families's lives if they flee.  They are beaten into submission, and fearful all of the time.  Someone is always watching them.  They are always under lock and key.  Even if they are not in a room at the time, they know they are being watched.  Would you feel comfortable fleeing?
